Clemency Jacques

I am a chartered counselling psychologist, registered with the British Psychological Society and the Health Care Professionals Council. I completed my Doctorate of Counselling Psychology at City University, and have two master's in Research Methods in Psychology and Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies from University College London. A strong believer in continuing professional development, since gaining accredited status, I have endeavoured to engage in further training in online therapeutic delivery, Virtual Reality/Avatar therapy, Compassion-focussed therapy, and The Tree of Life narrative approach.

With over 12 years experience working with mental health problems in various services, I aim to provide clinical expertise in a range of settings. For the NHS, I have worked in IAPT, forensic inpatient units, specialist and secondary care services. Additionally, I have extensive experience working for community-based charities such as MIND, Crisis, and private healthcare organisations, such as the Priory. More recently, I have taken on the role at the clinical advisor for the Dr Julian IAPT service provision. As well as being a guest lecturer for City University and St Mary's University, I have presented my expertise on a range of specialist subjects at various national and local conferences. I also work systemically as a clinical supervisor, an approach that considers holisitically how a therapist can best help their clients, within the context of their therapeutic contract.

I have extensive experience of working with clients with a wide range of issues and am an integrative pracitioner, tailoring each individual therapy to the needs of the client. I draw on a range of therapeutic modalites, such as: Psychodynamic, Existential, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative, Systemic, Compassion-focused, and Mindfulness. By working reflectively and flexibly, I proactively update the style of my approach to address the changing concerns that clients may have.

I specialise in working with a wide range of problems, including: online therapeutic delivery, psychosis, substance related and behavioural addiction issues, gender identity, sexuality, personality disorders, depression, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic attacks, stress, low self-esteem, eating disorders, co-dependency, family and relationship issues, PTSD, and other trauma presentations.

My therapeutic style focuses on empowerment, building on and improving the existing personal resources clients have. I'm also a friendly and compassionate therapist who works collaboratively with clients to help support them in their recovery journey. As a previous service user myself, I offer a non-judgmental understanding of the everyday, and long term, issues clients may face as they work towards overcoming their problems. Strong therapeutic relationship building is aided by my understanding of a clients' cultural perspectives.
